Pastor: Rev Turner
Rev.
Edward Turner is a native of Cleveland Heights, Ohio and is the
son of Cora Sue Turner and Irvin Edward Turner.
Most recently, he has served as an Associate Minister and Minister
of Missions at 19th Street Baptist Church in Washington, D.C.,
where Dr. Derrick Harkins is Pastor. In addition to providing
leadership to the Global Missions Ministry, Rev. Turner has been
involved in the Men¡¯s Ministry and served as a Facilitator for a
discipleship training course.
Rev. Turner was ordained in 1991 by Mount Olive Baptist Church
Arlington, Va., where he served under the late Rev. Dr. Aaron
Mackley. Rev. Turner served as a minister there for 14 years and
wa a faithful member for 21 years. He gave leadership to the Men's
Bible Study and was active in the Men's Brotherhood Fellowship.
Before receiving his Call, he enjoyed serving in the Gospel
Chorus.
From 1987 to 1989, Rev. Turner was a crisis intervention counselor
at Union Theological Seminary. At the same time, he served as
Seminarian at the historic Mariner's Temple Baptist Church, in the
Chinatown district of New York City. He also led the church's
multicultural ministry and taught the Men's Bible Study and Sunday
School.
Rev. Turner has a sincere interest and ability to reach people of
various backgrounds and cultures in his Christian ministry. As
such, he has preached for a number of denominations, including the
Moravian Church, United Church of Christ, Church of God in Christ,
the African Methodist Episcopal Church, American Baptist and the
National Baptist churches. He also has ministered in Uganda, East
Africa, and most recently in Kenya, Rwanda and the Congo. As
founder of 19th Street Baptist Church¡¯s Global Missions Ministry,
Rev. Turner is training members to serve on that church¡¯s first
short-term mission. The education and youth mission will take
place this spring in Kingston, Jamaica.
For years, Rev. Turner has worked as a human resources consultant,
giving guidance on employee relations, recruitment and staff
development among other things. His coworkers, friends and family
know him as worshipper and praiser as he testifies of the goodness
of Jesus. In ministry, Rev. Turner has a passion for missions and
evangelism.
Rev. Turner loves classical and gospel music. He also loves nature
and sports. As a college student, he received an athletic
scholarship from the Uni. of Toledo, and an invitation to attend
draft training for the Dallas Cowboys.
Rev. Turner received a B.A. degree in Psychology from the Uni. of
Toledo (1980), and a Master of Divinity degree from Union
Theological Seminary (1989). He and his wife, Robin, live in
Silver Spring, Md., with their two daughters, Kamille and Katy
Elise.
