Handbell Choirs
With praise and thanks to Almighty God, the Handbells of Faith Ministry was launched by Ms. Wilma Lewis on January 9, 2005. The Handbell Choir, under the direction of Ms. Lewis, made its debut at its Dedication Service at Faith Moravian Church on February 20, 2005.

The Handbell Choir is comprised of ten young adult members of the Faith Moravian congregation. The Choir¡¯s expression of praise to God through handbell music is rendered with three octaves of handbells and three octaves of choir chimes, which were donated to the Church by Ms. Lewis in honor of her parents, Juta and Walter Lewis. During the past 17 months, the Choir has added this expression of praise to the Faith Moravian worship experience by participating in various Sunday morning worship services and other special events.

The formation of the Handbell Choir is the fulfillment of a long-held dream of Ms. Lewis, who as a high school student in St. Thomas, Virgin Islands, was a member of the Memorial Moravian Handbell Choir ¨C the first such choir in the Virgin Islands. Among her cherished memories are many positive experiences as a member of that Choir, including the opportunity to praise God through handbell music; participation in the development of a special ministry that served as a catalyst for the formation of other handbell choirs throughout the Virgin Islands; sharing the fruits of the Choir¡¯s ministry with the Virgin Islands community; developing skills in handbell ringing; and participating in a national handbell festival. Ms. Lewis hopes to foster equally meaningful life-enriching experiences for participants in the Handbells of Faith Ministry.

To bring to life her vision of handbells at Faith, Ms. Lewis turned to several young adult members of the Faith congregation ¨C some of whom had prior music experience, but all of whom were new to handbell ringing. The Choir has provided each member with the opportunity for a new learning experience; for fellowship as brothers and sisters in faith; and for giving expression to the Choir¡¯s scripture theme to ¡°Let every thing that hath breath praise the Lord.¡± Psalm 150:6.
